Stop Fish Bombing News Update - BlueBoats
Mata Laut (“Eyes of the Sea” - BlueBoat #1).
The future of Reef Protection and Fighting Fish Bombing is here with the arrival of the Mata Laut BlueBoat in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysian Borneo. The BlueBoats are small autonomous surface vessels that will be used in areas not covered by land based arrays to immediately report illegal fish bombing activity. Autonomous roving patterns allow extensive reef coverage. Terence Lim, SFB Malaysia Director christened BB #1 Mata Laut or “Eyes of the Sea” in Malay. He and his team are familiarizing and preparing the Blue Boat for deployment. Click here for more BB information.
Wira Laut (“Sea Hero” - BlueBoat #2)
Outfitting of our second BlueBoat is in progress at SoundThinking. Clark Dunson Technical Director and Lee Lim Systems Engineer are adding additional capabilities with high-quality hydrophones to not only detect bombs but also assess reef health. The Boats integrate easily with the land mounted fish bomb sensors. Autonomous roaming patterns allow detailed reef coverage and Solar Panels extends autonomous patrolling.
Improved Cellular Coverage In Remote Areas
The fish bombing detection system on the west coast in Semporna experiences connectivity issues due to unstable cellular coverage in the remote regions. This requires time consuming system reboots and causes communication problems. Terence plans to deploy the BB with sensors and routers for good cellular coverage where the signal is weak and erratic.
