Marine Police Force Arrest Fish Bombers

According to a Facebook update, Marine Police Force in Kudat successfully arrested a group of illegal fish bombers. The were apprehended near Big Bonanza Reef.

 

Facebook update reads:

"“SUCCESSFUL FISH BOMB OCCESSFUL ACCEPTED MARINE POLICE

KUDAT-29 June 2021 (Tuesday) Marine Police Force successfully arrested a fishing boat believed to have a fish bombing activity in the waters of Big Bonanza Reef, 45 km northwest Simpang Mengayau, Kudat at 1.30 am yesterday.

ASP Ridzauddin Bin Selamat, Officials of the Marin Kudat Police Force said, while botronda PPM Kudat carried out a patrol in the area found a suspicious boat and tried to escape to the shallow area after realizing their activities were smelled by Marine Police.

However a 53-year-old owner along with 5 crews of adult men between 19 to 32 were successfully arrested by Marine police. Results of inspection in the ship's space found tools believed to be used to bomb fish among them 9 bottles of beverage believed to contain Ammonium Nitrat, 19 units of explosive fuse, 01 sacks of ammonium nitrate and fish with various types of approximately 10 kilograms were also seized. Seizure value is estimated as much as RM 87,415.00.

Arrest and seizure brought to PPM Kudat Operations Headquarters for further action. Case investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
