SFB Malaysia Director Terence Lim recently had the chance to meet with the Sabah Marine Police Chief - Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ahmad Ariffin and his deputy.

Over the course of an over 3 hours meeting, Terence provided a detailed presentation of key steps required to detect and locate blasts and also discussed and explained how the real-time fish bomb detection system can overcome the challenges faced by local authorities in dealing with fish bombing reports. Terence also shared analysis of blast audio from the hydrophone, the comparison with other sensors that detected the blast and the triangulation to determine the blast location. He also showed them the Respond App, played audio of blasts, and shared the locations of recent blasts. Terence explained that within minutes this information can be relayed to Enforcement Officials via the smartphone Respond App.

Police Chief Ahmad Ariffin noted that the Marine Police Information Center that covers all of Sabah could use the real-time fish bomb detection information in order to send instructions out to the available assets on the ground. He was also made aware that SFB will soon have a marine radar unit installed that can track fish bombers and detect vessels involved in illegal fishing.

Overall, the Marine police expressed interest in having access to the near real-time detection and location of the blasts.
